Unlocking Rights: Feeding Potential in Cambodia’s Coastal Communities

Hunger and malnutrition steal curiosity, laughter, and dreams. Our school feeding programme gives them back. From Kep to Koh Kong, 19 pre-schools, one mission: nourishing children.

In the coastal regions of Cambodia, the sun rises over rice fields and sandy paths, and little feet begin their daily journey to pre-school. For many children, the road is long, the days are hot, and hunger is an unwelcome companion.

At these critical early years, every meal matters—not just to fill a stomach, but to protect a child’s right to health, growth, and development.

Through its CO-SAVED project, co-funded by the European Union, Action Education / Aide et Action brings more than a school feeding programme to community pre-schools. Every meal is a child’s right, a step toward health, learning, and joy.

Together, we bring hope, opportunity, and dignity. Communities cook, schools feed, children thrive—we create impact.

A Plate of Promise: Programme Resumes Across Coastal Provinces

After a break during public holidays in September and October 2025, our school feeding programme has resumed in 19 community pre-schools across four coastal provinces: 6 in Kep, 5 in Kampot, 6 in Koh Kong, and 2 in Preah Sihanouk.

In November, we reached 452 children, including 208 girls, providing one nutritious meal per day, every morning.

For every child, a carton of milk and some snacks are more than just food. They are energy to play, focus, and learn. They are the difference between drifting off in class and joining friends in discovery.

Every meal is a step toward fulfilling their right to education, play, and healthy development—rights recognized under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Hunger and malnutrition do not only take away a child’s energy; they steal curiosity, laughter, and the ability to dream. By providing nutritious meals in pre-schools, we empower children to arrive ready to explore, create, and thrive.

Parents, too, are relieved of the daily struggle to provide adequate food, giving families more space to nurture, protect, and support their children.

The Right to a Brighter Future: A Community Effort

Our programme is not just about feeding children; it is about building stronger communities. Local caregivers prepare meals with care, farmers supply fresh produce, and teachers witness the transformation in classrooms where every child can learn without the shadow of hunger.

Food is more than sustenance—it is a child’s right. And when that right is met, other rights flourish: the right to health, education, play, protection, and life itself. In these small coastal pre-schools, we see the power of rights in action every day, in every smile, every spoonful, and every curious question asked at the classroom table.

Hunger should never stand in the way of a child’s potential. With the support of our partners and sponsors, we continue to make every meal count—because every child deserves a chance to grow, learn, and dream.

Together, we unlock children’s rights to food, health, and education.
