Aide et Action, Rabbit School Partnership to Help Students with Special Needs

PHNOM PENH – For 27 years, Rabbit School Organization has provided quality education to children with autism, Down syndrome, and intellectual disabilities.

Program Director Vong Vuthy credits the organization’s success to the invaluable support of the Education Ministry, Social Affairs Ministry, and key partners like Aide et Action.

“Aide et Action’s consistent support over the past 13 years has been instrumental in ensuring that children with autism and intellectual disabilities have equal access to education,” Vuthy explained.

Beyond financial aid, Aide et Action has provided crucial technical assistance and resources to strengthen the school’s human resources. This partnership has enabled Rabbit School Organization to expand its reach, offering educational services in 15 schools across Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Speu, and Siem Reap provinces.

At the heart of their mission is the provision of quality education.

Over 500 children, including 200 students at Toul Kork Primary School in Phnom Penh and 300 in provincial schools, benefit from their tailored educational programs. To ensure the highest quality of instruction, Rabbit School Organization invests in comprehensive teacher training, equipping educators with the skills to support students with diverse needs.

Beyond academic learning, the organization recognizes the importance of vocational training. By empowering students with practical skills, they are better prepared to secure employment and lead independent lives.

Advocacy and awareness-raising are integral to Rabbit School Organization’s work. They tirelessly advocate for the rights of children with disabilities, challenging societal biases and seeking support from both the public and private sectors.

“It has been a long and challenging journey,” shares Program Director Vuthy.

“We’ve faced obstacles, including parental resistance to education, a shortage of specialized teachers, and ongoing societal discrimination. However, we’re witnessing a shift in attitudes, with parents increasingly recognizing the value of education,” he said. “The expansion of classrooms at Toul Kork Primary School from two to 15 is a testament to this growing demand.”

Since 2003, Rabbit School Organization has partnered with Aide et Action, a global non-profit organization, to create sustainable education solutions for marginalized communities in Cambodia. Together, they are working to build a more inclusive and equitable future for all children.
