In remote communities, access to quality education often feels out of reach. But in Kep, a coastal region of Cambodia, the O’ Krasar community pre-school stands as a symbol of hope, where early childhood education is rewriting the futures of children. The bright minds of tomorrow are being forged today.
In rural areas, many children face significant barriers to education. Poverty, limited resources, and a lack of access to clean water and nutritious food often stand in their way.

Yet, the importance of early childhood education cannot be overstated. It is during these formative years that children develop the critical cognitive and social skills that will shape their future. Every child, no matter their background, deserves the opportunity to rise, to thrive, and to realize their full potential.
For the children of O’ Krasar, early childhood education wouldn’t be a reality without the support of Action Education / Aide et Action (AEA) under the CO-SAVED project, co-funded by the EU.
A Teacher’s Vision, A Community’s Strength
At the heart of early childhood education, stands a dedicated teacher – Keang Kimlin – who is passionate about nurturing young minds and laying the foundation for their future success. With two years of experience, she has embraced her role with passion, knowing that the children of her community depend on her to give them the start they deserve.

“Our school has been built by AEA, which has also provided teaching materials, a school fence, latrines, and a playground,” she explains. These critical infrastructures create a learning environment where children can thrive.
Kimlin’s day starts early, with a commitment to providing not only education but the nutrition children need to be energized and ready to learn. “I buy food every day—rice, fruits, Khmer noodles, corn, meat, sugarcane juice, porridge, and sweets,” she shares.

In a community where many parents, often fishermen, struggle to provide a morning meal, our school feeding program in 26 community pre-schools across coastal provinces is nothing short of lifeline. This daily breakfast, combined with the educational tools provided by AEA, ensures that children can focus on learning and play without being distracted by hunger.
Kimlin’s dedication to her students’ health goes even further. “I’m happy with the latrines and the playground,” she says. “Exercise is good for their health, and clean facilities are essential to keeping them healthy.” Despite the ongoing challenge of using rainwater, the infrastructures contribute to ensure a clean, safe space where children can grow—physically, intellectually, and emotionally.
A Legacy of Empowerment: Investing in the Minds of Tomorrow
Kimlin understands that early childhood education is the foundation for a brighter future, especially for children in rural communities. “Pre-school is crucial for children from rural areas,” she says. “It’s an opportunity for them to prepare for their studies.”

The CO-SAVED project, supported by the EU, has made this opportunity possible, giving children the tools and space they need to succeed. This aligns with the EU’s commitment to SDG 4, which aims for quality education for all, and AEA’s mission to improve educational outcomes for all.

Kimlin’s impact reaches beyond her classroom, empowering communities and building a foundation for a brighter tomorrow. Her vision for the future is as clear as her dedication. “I hope to continue working here. I hope we’ll have more buildings to welcome more students,” she reflects. “It would also be great to have easy access to clean water.”
Investing in early childhood education today is an investment in the bright minds of tomorrow. Together, we are ensuring that the future of these children—and the communities they help build—is filled with endless possibilities.
