It’s in the News: A New Bamboo Bridge in Kampot

In the latest headlines, Action Education / Aide et Action (AEA) is working with the Kampong Samaki community to build a 320-meter-long bamboo bridge at their eco-resort in Kampot. The project is already 60% complete and is expected to be finished before the upcoming Khmer New Year.

Cambodia’s fishing communities have been impacted by rising sea levels, erratic weather patterns, and overfishing, which have diminished their sources of income. The unpredictable weather, combined with dwindling fish stocks, has made it more challenging for families to sustain themselves.

In response, the CO-SAVED project, which is co-funded by the EU, strengthens coastal communities’ resilience to climate change. AEA is investing in eco-tourism, which is increasingly vital for diversifying income sources and building long-term economic resilience.

Co-Action: Building Resilience with Bamboo

Through this project, we provided bamboo to help the Kampong Samaki community build the floating bridge. The structure will not only connect the community but also attract eco-tourists eager to explore Cambodia’s natural beauty.

Bamboo plays a key role in creating long-term sustainable solutions. It’s an ideal building material for several reasons: it’s strong, lightweight, and highly sustainable. In addition to these practical benefits, bamboo is abundant in the region, making it both eco-friendly and cost-effective.

Co-Impact: Adaptation to Climate Change

The bamboo bridge is a symbol of resilience and adaptation in the face of climate change. This community-driven initiative is paving the way for a brighter, more resilient future.

Our mission goes beyond infrastructure—it’s about fostering long-term, sustainable solutions that uplift entire communities. By promoting eco-tourism, we do not only help families create new sources of income but also ensures that the environment is protected for future generations.

Stay tuned as we continue to support Kampong Samaki and other communities in coastal areas.
