Cambodia’s youth are bringing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to push for climate action. Sorya Di, a 25-year-old agronomy graduate, is one such determined young woman. Discover her beautiful story.
Inspired by her experience of planting mangroves with Action Education / Aide et Action (AEA), Sorya, a volunteer with Youth Star Cambodia, has developed a deep understanding of the role ecosystems like mangroves play in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
She participated in hands-on activities with AEA, which introduced her to the essential role of mangrove forests in protecting shorelines from erosion, supporting marine biodiversity, and absorbing carbon dioxide.
This connection to nature had a profound impact on her career aspirations. She now envisions a future where eco-friendly businesses thrive and contribute to Cambodia’s green economy. “I want to become a businesswoman and work in the green economy,” Sorya shared. “I was inspired by planting mangroves and selling small plants to tourists, so we can grow a green future together!”

By combining her agronomy knowledge with her entrepreneurial spirit, Sorya hopes to launch a business that supports sustainable practices and promotes environmental awareness. As the world faces increasingly urgent environmental challenges, Cambodian youth lare leading the charge to not only protect the planet but also transform it into a more sustainable and economically viable place for future generations.
With the support of the CO-SAVED project, co-funded by the EU and co-led by AEA, inspiring young people are empowered to pave the way for a green future.
Together, let’s unlock the potential of youth to create lasting, positive effects on both the environment and local communities.
