Action Education (AE), an international NGO, and its partners have created a library for children and adults in the communities of the Great Lake floodplains in Battambang province.

Vorn Samphors, national director of Action Education, told our partners at the Post that the library contained hundreds of titles, as well as an Internet connection, “smart TVs”, fans, and a water filter.
“We hope the library will help promote study activities and other skills such as self-care and health awareness. The televisions will be used to support storytelling activities and knowledge related to applied science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).The digital library will also serve as a resource that teachers can use to research pedagogy and career guidance,” he says.
Despite having more than 300 students, the school previously had only a few books. These were distributed in turns between classes to allow students to read them. The situation changed when the NGO and its partners organized a mobile library boat, which goes to the school two or three times a week.
The association’s school library project currently supports more than 10 libraries in the Tonle Sap Lake region. The organization supports nine mobile tuk-tuk libraries and one library on the lake.
